Notes[]

In its previous incarnation as CINAR, the company enjoyed an illustrious existence that ultimately ended in scandal. Cinar was founded in 1976 by Micheline Charest and her husband Ronald A. Weinberg as a foreign-film distribution company. In 2003, both were fined CDN$1 million each as the result of an earlier financial scandal [1], and were banned from their own corporation, any subsidiaries or other Canadian-based companies for five years; such events put the studio on the brink of collapse. The Company was subsequently purchased and rebranded under new management as Cookie Jar Entertainment.
